Thank
you for your inquiry concerning the 10th Mountain Division Descendant
Merit Scholarship.
The
10th Mountain Division Descendants Inc., is a national organization
whose goals are:

To
commemorate the 10th Mountain men who sacrificed their lives in
defense of their country.
To celebrate the lives of the 10th Mountain men who fought in
the defense of their country as models of honor, courage, and
accepting one's responsibility.
To recognize and foster the significance of the historical and
military contributions made by the 10th Mountain Division in the
World War II era.
To recognize and foster the significance of the contributions
made by the 10th Mountain Division to the ski and mountain
climbing industries.
To share a common love of the mountains, the outdoors, and the
sports of skiing and climbing similar to a 10th Mountain
ancestor.
To participate in community service events in the name of the
World War II 10th Mountain Division.
To socialize with individuals of similar 10th Mountain heritage.

In conjunction with
our goals and supported by the Tenth Mountain Division Foundation, this
$1000 scholarship will be awarded to the one entering first year
descendant who has demonstrated meritorious service to the World War II
10th Mountain Division above all other descendants who apply. The
scholarship money will be given as the descendant enters his/her first
year at an accredited institute of higher learning and will be paid
directly to such institution by the Tenth Mountain Division Foundation.
How to Qualify
The applicant will prove direct lineal decadency to a soldier who served in the WWII 10th Mountain Division.
How To Apply
Read the application and general instructions
before completing. A typed application is required.
Complete the application as accurately as possible. Make sure that all
signatures required for eligibility are included.
For each service project/activity complete a separate service project
form. (Remember, the project or activity must be approved and accepted by
the local Chapter President or Descendant Chapter Director before it is
undertaken in the name of the 10th. Certification of the activity or
project must be included in the packet.)
All forms may be reproduced as needed.
Keep service project forms in chronological order.
Scholarship Applications must include all of the required attachments
and are to be submitted in the following order:

- Service
Project forms in chronological order. (See below)
- Essay of 500
words or less summarizing your 10th Mountain service
project/activity experience.
- Chapter
President or Descendant Director verification letter.
- Certified
copy of your high school transcript.
- (Additional
letters from school, religious, or civic officials regarding
your project may also be submitted, but not in lieu of the
letter from the Chapter President or Descendant Director.)

Applications must be postmarked no later than
April 15,
each year.
All applicants will be notified by May 30 of that year of the
scholarship committee's decision.
While not required, it is recommended that the applicant and/or the parent
of the applicant be a current member of the 10th
Mountain Division Descendants Inc.
