Star Descendants is up and running!  Norm Burkey, the chairman, will reply to anyone who contacts the Descendants Web and is the descendant of a KIA.

Greetings.

Allow me to introduce myself.  I am Norm Burkey the proud son of Pfc. Norman Burkey 85-C killed on Mt. Della Spe on 3/12/45.  Although we knew quite a bit about my dad, we never talked much about him.  I have been on a search to get to know about him for several years, with fantastic results.  I have talked to several of his buddies, received several letters and last year, during the 10th Mountain Division Reunion Tour to Italy, actually found the foxhole where he was killed.  I have a picture of me in his foxhole.  All this is to encourage you to continue your search for information about him.

The Denver Public Library is a great resource of 10th  You can e-mail Debbie Gemar

First a few resources within the 10 Mountain Division family.  You could subscribe to The Blizzard, the quarterly publication, and ask them to post a notice in it for you.  The contact person is Sally Fricke Osterling.

I would also encourage you to join the 10th Mountain Descendants Organization

I am also a member of another organization called AWON. We are all orphans of service people killed in WWII and it has been a great support an source of information for many of us.  We are in the process of final preparations for our bi-annual convention in Washington DC to help dedicate the WWII Memorial.  Unfortunately, its all sold out.  We will have 500+ members and friends in attendance. AWON also publishes a quarterly newsletter.  I will forward a separate e-mail shortly from one of our AWON members that gives an overview of the information on veterans that can be obtained, as well as instructions on how to obtain the information.

It was great to hear from you.  Please keep in touch and encourage your family to get involved with you.
